Sensio Tap is a new and practical solution for registering when an employee is physically present with a resident in a care home or in home care. In Sweden, Sensio Tap is already widely used, and now the solution is also available in the UK.

Sensio Tap is a new and simple solution that can be used both in care homes and in home care to register when an employee is physically present in the room of a resident.

Sensio Tap is available via Sensio Pocket, an easy-to-use interface and mobile application for healthcare professionals, delivered as part of the Sensio 365 healthcare platform.

The solution is very easy to use.

– The employee holds the work telephone with Sensio Pocket over a «Tap tag», a separate label which is attached to the wall, on the way in and out of the room. Then it is registered, among other things, when and how long the employee has been there, explains Mathias Lervold, Product Manager for Sensio 365.

Sensio Tap also offers the possibility of registration via the room panel or directly in Pocket.

– The big advantage of Sensio Tap is that you can register your presence physically in a simple and safe way. With personal login in Sensio Pocket, the employee's name is displayed, and you get a real-time overview of where your colleagues are present, including who is in the same room. It provides extra security and makes it easier to visit colleagues, if necessary, says Lervold (picture).

When employees use Sensio Tap, the following information is logged and stored in the healthcare portal:

* Who has registered «present» or «out».

* Date and time.

* Number of employees who were present at the same time.

* The room the employees were present in.

* Duration of the visit.

– This information and these figures can be used to create reports on daily operations and service quality. It can, for example, be useful for healthcare managers in their work to optimize and streamline services at the care home, says Lervold in Sensio.

Wireless transmission

The transfer of information from the work telephone to the Sensio Tap tag in the resident's room takes place using so-called «NCF» – NearField Communication, i.e. wireless transmission. The Tap tag, which is placed on the wall, has an NFC chip and does not need a battery.

– When the employee holds the work phone over the Sensio Tap tag, it reads where he or she is and transfers this to Sensio's systems, which know whether the employee is entering or leaving the room. The NFC reader itself is usually on the back of the phone, explains Mathias Lervold.

Since the launch of Sensio Tap in Sweden in the summer of 2023, the solution has become widespread and has already become a standard in Sweden.

– We have already installed 7,000 Tap tags in Sweden, and there are almost 30,000 «taps» daily. It is also available in the UK. In Norway it is still in the initial phase with some test installations, and we look forward to more local authorities opening their eyes to this simple and practical solution, says Lervold.

This is how easy and practical it is to use Sensio Tap:

  1. Unlock the mobile phone and hold the phone's NFC reader over the Sensio Tap tag.
  2. Successful presence marking triggers vibration and confirmation message.
  3. Register yourself «out» by holding the phone over the Sensio Tap tag again, then confirm «out of room» on the phone. You can also sign out via the «out» button in Pocket or via a room panel if you have it available.

The NFC functionality is currently delivered to Sensio Pocket on Android but will also come to Sensio Pocket on iOS later this autumn.

The tags themselves are available in two colors – white and green. Since the tags have neither a battery nor any active components, they do not require maintenance.
