Sensio Insight is an innovative digital e-health solution for healthcare professionals in the elderly care sector that provides invaluable insights about residents and patients in care homes and home care. The solution is a decision support tool and enables care workers to provide person-centered care based on automatically collected sensor data.
Sensio Insight has been developed to meet the demographic challenges we face with a sharp increase in the number of elderly and dementia patients and a shortage of qualified healthcare professionals. The aim of the solution has always been to meet the needs of elderly care across care homes and home care.
– The starting point for the idea of Sensio Insight is that healthcare professionals have to make many decisions about residents and patients on a daily basis without having sufficient insight based on data. In many cases, manual mapping is required, often across shifts and over a long period of time, to obtain sufficient information to make a good decision. Insight is all about enabling healthcare professionals to easily move from data to decision-making and person-centered care, says Product Director Jon Slorer (photo) at Sensio, the company behind the innovative solution.

Developed in collaboration with local authorities
Sensio Insight has been developed in collaboration with several Norwegian and Swedish local authorities through a user-driven innovation partnership, where alerts and data from sensor technology in a nurse call system are used in a new and innovative way.
– Together with the local authorities involved in the development of Sensio Insight, we identified ten scenarios where current mapping methods are not sufficient. Examples include «what causes changes in sleep patterns», «how to reduce the risk of recurring falls» and «what is the effect of changing medication», says Slorer.

Better basis for decision-making
Mapping residents and patients manually and with high quality is very demanding. Sensio Insight is designed to reduce this challenge and provide better insight and better basis for decision-making for care workers based on objective sensor data; hence the name «Sensio Insight».
Central to this solution is a data platform that aggregates and presents data from various sensors and alarm systems, such as the RoomMate safety sensor and more traditional alarms from various nurse call systems. Insight collects data from all of Sensio's connected sensors. This sensor data is transformed according to a patient activity model and offered as visual reports designed to support care services.
– The Insight platform is based on open standards and has been designed from the ground up in accordance with data protection laws. User-centered design has been a fundamental principle throughout the development process. This has resulted in a tool that seamlessly adapts to the hectic workday and routines of healthcare professionals, while at the same time facilitating better decisions, says Slorer at Sensio.
